TINGA TINGA FAKES

Unfortunately Tingatinga died already in 1972. Despite a severe diligence and exceptional creativity he left only a life’s work with a restrict number of paintings. Because these paintings mark the birth of a new art trend they are sought-after with collectors and later high prices are paid for originals. Such a situation on the art market is the typical source for fakes.

THE MAKONDE SCULPTURE

Elias Jengo, the author of this article, is currently a professor at the University of Dar es Salaam, Department of Fine and Performing Arts. He is also an internationally famous artist. His major works can be seen in many public places in Tanzania.
