Geraldi Mathambwe

Geraldi was 52 years old when he passed away (2009). He came from Newala, small town near Mozambique border.  After he learned to carve from his teacher Steven Mawedo he set out on long journey to Dar as Salaam to try his luck. He was still a young boy (15 years only) at that time but he got in touch with famous sculptors Abunawasi Anangangola and Martin Jumamosi with whom he lived and carved the first years in Dar es Salaam. They stayed in Kawe, Tangi Bovu, on the road to Bagamoyo. In 1980 he was invited to Oslo, Norway by development agency NORAD. He had a number of exhibitions in Oslo and Bergen. He is represented in many galleries in Dar es Salaam.
