Paulo Mayige

Born in Nzega, Tabora Region April 25 1955, He is among few Tanzanian clay sculptors. When he was seven years old he started to learn pottery by watching older women in the village but instead of making pots Maige would take some clay and make his own creation mostly sculptors of village life. His market was in Dar es Salaam, at the age of 20 years he got employed by the National Museum of Tanzania, but in 1985 he left the Museum and has been self employed. His Artwork is very unique and can be found in the National Museum of Tanzania, Skansen Museum of Stockholm, Sweden and at The National Museum of African Art at the Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C., U.S.A
